The competition

Ontario’s Big City Mayors are looking for ambitious and innovative proposals that city councils may apply to help build the Cities of Tomorrow. This tasks teams with identifying an urban technology, process, policy or program that can address problems unique to large cities and which intersect with the priorities of Ontario’s Big City Mayors. Teams of 2-5 students can submit a maximum 2,500 word proposal that outlines their idea and why it is worthwhile. Winning teams will be presented with a total of $50,000 in cash prizes.

A select number of participants will be invited to present their innovative ideas and be evaluated by a diverse panel of experts at a weekend showcase in the Fall of 2015. The showcase will be a celebration of what the Cities of Tomorrow might look like. It is an unparalleled opportunity to provide industry leaders, senior city staff, academics, Mayors and other government officials with platform to hear from Ontario’s best and brightest young public policy minds. Beyond hosting the final round of the competition and announcing the winner, the showcase will be a forum of discussion where industry leaders, academics and city officials will share their insights on how their corporation, university or municipality are tackling the imminent challenges that face our cities.
